Gore was great in this episode and there was a lot of it. Still just as tense as the other episodes so far. I didn’t feel that there really was much plot progression in this episode. It felt like a filler type episode.

Pigs seem to be a reoccurring theme in this episode again.

Angela Bassett was amazing in this episode! She is talent but this episode is her best performance to date! In this episode Angela’s character faces the disappearance of her daughter among other family issues.

Great character dynamic in this episode! Another well written episode.

The gore was fabulous in this episode. Very much what you want from AHS!!!

I am grateful that they picked up right where they left off form the last episode! And this scene doesn’t disappoint! I am interested to see how the use of the pig ties into this overall story arch.  Last episode had the frequent appearance of the wooden figures and this one pig tails. Guess we will have to wait and see what the next episode does…….

The suspense and strange occurrences continued in the same creepy manner adding to this story perfectly. We even find out more about the history of the house in this episode and you won’t be disappointed.

I feel like there was an inspiration from the original Blair Witch movie in this episode. Actually, even the first episode with the wooden figures.

Just as a side not so sure about the interview and dramatic re-enactments being used still.

The talent in this series has always blown me away from the acting to the writing and set designs.

Zootopia (2016)

mv5botmymjeynzizmv5bml5banbnxkftztgwnziynju0nze-_v1_sy1000_sx675_al_Zootopia (2016)

Genre: Animation, Action, Adventure, Comedy, Crime, Family, Mystery

Rated: PG

Duration: 108 minutes

This movie takes a cold hard look at prejudices in a fun manner. If you are on Facebook, or watching the news, you know that this is a topic that is openly being discussed. And one that needs to happen.

I highly recommend this movie to anyone. It is well written, which rich characters and a great balance of humor while talking about a serious subject. If it doesn’t push you too look at your own personal prejudices than you are not paying attentions to the story. Or what is going on in our current world. I want to thank the writers and producers for not being afraid to make this movie and confront a topic that needs to be discussed.

Though there is a happy ending, not a spoiler since this is a Disney movie, I hope that one day we, as the human race, can find our own happy ending. And inspiring our children, the next generation, to aim for our own Zootopia, play on the idea of a Utopia if that went over your head, is the place to start.

BTW, the sloth is still my favorite! Check out the trailer below to see why!

Please note that this will be written as I watch the season progress.

I have high hopes for this season after watching last season (Season 5: Hotel). The complete opposite of the Freak Show (Season 4), which I think they held back in. Seemed too cautious with the potential that the subject matter offered.  Another reason I have high hopes is the teaser images that have come out so far for the season.

So you get an idea of my tastes in the season so far here are my rankings of the previous seasons.

1- Hotel
2- Asylum
3- Coven
4- Freak Show
5- Murder House

Episode 1: They didn’t hold back this episode! A lot of creepiness and jumps achieved from the get go. The character history and interaction is already making for a great season. I am excited to see Cuba Gooding Jr. involved in this series.

I am interested to see where they go with the interview aspects they are utilizing in this first episode. And especially after the ending which had me on the edge of my seat.

Will they try to fit in a lot of different things into this season? How will all these images connect? Especially with the promo images that we have been seeing. How do the people clearly from the past tie in with current events? Do the white trash hillbillies know something important? Are they a cult?

I am already excited after this first episode.

Batgirl

photo DSC_0080_zpsuiqgmorx.jpgBatgirl has been a strong female I have admired since childhood. So of course this is a costume that I had to eventually do! This was before I learned how to work with spandex so the suit was actually from Think Geek several years ago. I had a gift card for my birthday so why not use it. It originally came as a zenti suit meaning it had a hood and gloves. This had to be changed right away for several reasons. First, as a diabetic I have to be able to check my blood sugar at a moments notice. So I cut off the finger tips and modified gloved to have the fins on the sides s. Second the originally cowl doesn’t stay in place when you sit down. That had to go quickly and modifying the suit want that easy since the zipper went all the way up the cowl too. But I made it work!!!

 photo DSC_0178_zpsntv2yg9s.jpg

As with all body suits I wear I had to cut a hole in the suit for my insulin pumps tubing so that I could wear this at the same time. Here is a link to another blog about cosplaying s a diabetic. This is one reason I wear a corset with this costume. The other reason is my cape hangs from the shoulder straps of the corset. I am very pleased with this cape! I made the pattern myself and worked very hard to make it two sided. I love the look of black and yellow!  I had to make the base tape myself so it took forever to get this part of the costume done but the time and effort was worth it.

 photo DSC_0155_zps3ywsdgl5.jpg

The cowl is made by Texas Batman. He was amazing to work with! He ran into an issue and wasn’t able to get my cowl out as originally discussed but he communicated everything so perfectly that it didn’t matter to me. Sadly, I didn’t keep in contact with him so I am not sure if he still sells these or not.

If you are looking into a costume like this, meaning using a cowl and need a wig, I would recommend looking into a half wig. The wig under the cowl makes it extra tight and hard to get on and off. Because of this I do tend to get headaches quickly in this cowl, but this is something common with cowls from conversations with other cosplayers.

As much as I love this costume I don’t get to wear it too often. The cowl makes convention sounds echo a lot so I get a headache pretty quickly.

PAX West 2016

fucrftx

Usually I try to come up with 10 highlights for a con but sadly I was just shy of that goal. I cheated to make 10 this time. If I were a gamer than I think there would be too many to choose from! PAX is more for the gamer than the pop culture geek but a pop culture geek can still have fun. Check out my list below!

  1. Volunteering with Take This was the only reason I got to go PAX. Take This is a nonprofit organization who educates and advocates to change the stigma of mental health in the gaming community and work environment. I appreciate PAX for teaming up with this great organization who sponsors the AFK room. A quiet and safe place for con goers to regroup if they get over stimulated by the con floor or just need a quiet space for their mental health needs. I loved hearing stories form people who have benefited from this room. Take This is so amazing, and so dedicated to its mission for mental health, that if a developed was alone at their booth a Take This volunteer watched the booth so that person could go eat or take a break.
  2. The Magic the Gathering activities at the Paramount Theater. Can I saw OMG! And thanks to my friend who dragged me there! This was the biggest highlight of PAX West for me. The street by the Paramount theater was converted into a bazaar with bright colored tents housing a variety of shops and activities. These activities included watching glass makers display their craft, henna painting for free, and food trucks. Just to name a few. This area was also open to the public, you didn’t need a pass to participate. Once you stepped into the theater you further stepped into a fantasy world. The entire theater was decorated to make you feel like you were in another world. Having been in this theater they must have spent days or have many staff to accomplish the metamorphosis. If I get to PAX 2017 I will be looking for Magic the Gatherings area again to see what they do! photo IMG_2569_zpscqeqlulf.jpg
  3. All the amazing statues that come out every year to PAX. This is always a highlight to me. If you count all the statues individually I can hit my 10 highlights. But my favorite was the Weta Booth’s Orc! The details were amazing! My picture came out very blurry but it adds to the running for my life feel I was going for!  photo IMG_2532_zpsu8sra6x6.jpg
     photo IMG_2543_zpsngjjwd0n.jpg
     photo IMG_2579_zpsxqpd6sbd.jpg
  4. Thank you PAX for having gender neutral bathrooms!
  5. Exploding Kittens had buttons! I love Exploding Kittens! Some one was walking around with a giant card. I wish I got a picture of them.
  6. Getting to drive a Mario Cart. Or is it Luigi cart in this instance? **scratches head** (This was not part of PAX but with one of the cosplayers). Sadly my phone decided to be mean and didn’t fully record the great interview I got with the maker and his friend. Thank you for being so amazing and fun! As a side note this cart even had a phone charger incorporated into it! IMG_20160904_145436
  7. I got to hug a T-Rex! I love those costuems soooooo  much!
  8. PAX West 2016 Lego USS Missouri Battleship by Brickmania. This thing was so large that a photo didn’t do it justice so here is a video for you to see it all.
  9. The Ad Councils Love has no labels booth for this great gif. I watched people all day make their own gifs while I volunteered across the room before I got to make my own!!! FYI I am trying to eat the ghost like Pac Man, though I should have probably used the cherry for that idea. I even made one of the volunteers laugh with it. Didn’t intend to but I will go with it! 8pcdx31014
  10. To spin off of this gem above, I have loved the Bioware booth each year where you can get a picture. Sadly, they did not have this feature this year. Bioware, please do this again! You were my favorite for the past two years because of your photo booth! PLEASE PLEASE WITH A CHERRY ON TOP!!! So here are the products of previous PAX! See why this needs to come back! EPIC, right?!

The Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire 2016

The Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire 2016 of Bonnie Lake, WA

Going to a Renaissance (Ren) Faire is something that I have always wanted to go to and I finally got to check out this event in Washington thanks to the talented Something Pretty inviting me to help with her booth. I want to start off this review by thanking her for the wonderful opportunity and I look forward to working with her in the future!

I had so much fun that my new life goal is to be a Renie, basically someone who travels from Ren Faire to Ren Faire. Sadly, but understandably, my husband said no to that career goal. 😦

This is my list 10 highlights from the Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire!

  1. The Scandinavian Wizard Metal musical styling of Frostylock’s Transmogrification. This guy is so epic-ally awesome that his business card is even a Magic the Gathering card! Make sure to check out his website to see if he will be at your local Ren Faire.
  2. Meeting epic people like Paul the Barbarian. Sadly my antlers for this costume did not work out and broke the first day. Every time I saw him, and this was each day I was at the Ren Faire, I was so sad I couldn’t challenge him to a fight with our horns. On the last day I finally did, thanks to the encouragement from my booth mates! I don’t regret that! Paul was a pleasure to see and speak with. As was his friend, whose name I am epic-ally forgetting. I am honestly terrible with names! Photo by Something Pretty photo IMG_2581_zpsglakb5tg.jpg
  3. All the amazing food! The food is pricey but oh sooooooo good! There is so much to choose from it was hard to decide! I really enjoyed my chicken pot pie, fries, onion rings, and the turkey leg especially! As you can say I lived up to my costume devouring like a true barbarian! I also had to fight a dog off for my turkey leg, we became friends after if you are wondering what happened. Photo by Something Pretty. photo IMG_2459_zpsucrnoebw.jpg
  4. The jousting tournament was very exciting! Since I was at the Ren Faire on several weekends I watched several tournaments. The announcer was great! With some help from a friend I tracked down this talented person. The character’s name is Count Vidor and you can find this talenter performer on Facebook by clicking here.  He was entertaining! The tournament involved several displays of skills from combat to horseback riding.

And here is Spain, sadly losing to England in the joust.
    ]
  5. Seeing ladies represent in a traditionally male sport! Thank you ladies of Spain, not only for you entertainment and great spirits but for also showing what a kick a$$ woman can do! photo IMG_2452_zps4jyka6up.jpg
  6. I loved people’s enthusiasm for the costumes. And the creativity that I saw. It was so great talking to everyone about cosplay and costumes that I got to. But that is my passion after all. One I love sharing! Washington Midsummer fair goes on for three weekends and each has its own theme. Pirate, fairy, and royals. photo IMG_2477_zpsxcqnv4rc.jpg
This girl and I were totally inspired by the same make up muse! We had to take a picture! photo IMG_2445_zpsu94cgo2i.jpg
  7. The fact that anything goes at Ren Faire and you can run into Deadpool or an Ewok! Seriously, anything goes! Everyone is so open and accepting. We are all there to get out of our realities and have fun! Thank you to everyone who made those days so memorable. photo IMG_2450_zpsjh3nia10.jpg
  8. The pickle lady. I am not a pickle person but it seemed to be a popular item. I did try one, cause why not, I am at Ren Faire! Embrace the traditions and try something new. I don’t plan on getting it again personally but it is highly recommended by the regulars of Ren Faire.
  9. That there were dogs everywhere! I love dogs and every day was full of them!
  10. Getting to meet Cat Cosplay! Sadly I failed at getting a picture with Cat Cosplay. 😦
  11. I love how into character everyone is! It really makes you feel like you are in a different world.
  12. The giant chasing and catching fairies. The interaction of the actors with the general public was so great to watch.

I highly recommend finding your local Ren Faire and checking it out. Keep in mind that each Ren Faire will have its own traditions. As a friend explained to me there are different historical points and each Ren Faire focuses on a different point in that history. If you go in costume have fun and get creative! I found a lot of inspiration this year for future costumes and I am sure you will too. But costumes are not required so go have fun in general!
