Genre: Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Thriller, 31 Days of Horror 2016

Duration: 89 minutes

Rated: Not Rated

Usually I get frustrated when a movie is label horror that shouldn’t be but for the first time I am in the opposite situation. IMDB and other sources do not label this movie as a horror when it should. Seriously, common jump scare tactics, creepy mannequins that move and try to kill you, not being able to go far from a house without a curse trying to kill you, AND demons! This movie totally screams fantasy horror! Which is why I decided to include on this years list of 31 horror movies.

There is a lot that I loved about this movie. The twist on a fairy tale classic for one. Several other reviews I read didn’t appreciate this but I did! I love the character design of Sleeping Beauty in this movie! Very unique and artistic with an elegant armor look. Not to mention the monster designs are amazing as well! Everything else is pretty every day but these aspects were well done. I also appreciate that a lot of thought went into the details of this movie.

I loved the intrigue set up in the first few minutes of the movie as we experience the dream of the main character. I feel that the cinematography did very well at conveying a characters transitioning between the waking world and the dream world. Something important to the plot. I love the little things that were put into each scene with the changes in the characters reality and his questioning of what he is going through. As he learned more about the situation his dreams evolved with the knowledge.

The original soundtrack was well done. It added just the right touch to the movie at the right times

This movie was a slower paced movie but I didn’t feel like it was a let down as we discover what is going on in the strange house that the main character inherited from an estranged uncle. Not only did he inherit the house but the family curse his family had tried to protect him from his whole life. As with any thriller mystery all the details really come to light in the last portion of the movie.

My only complaint is that the movie just kind of ended. There could have been a little bit more I feel. Maybe it was part of the horror aspects of this  movie as this is a common complaint I have with many horror moves. Maybe it is set up for a sequel. Part of my hopes so with where the plot went. I can’t say too much without potential ruining the movie and I really hope you watch this one. There aren’t too many that I say WATCH! Watch it all!! But this is for sure one of those few.
