Luke Cage (2016)
Duration: 13 episodes
I am sick in bed at a perfect time. The next installment of Netflex’s original series from Marvel came out so I spent most of the day watching this newly released series featuring Luke Cage. All I can say is Netflix has done is again with another well written, well acted, and over all well made Marvel series! Jessica Jones and Daredevil have been amazing focusing on Hell’s Kitchen but Luke Care is just as good focusing on Harlem, NY embracing the feel and sounds of 70’s action movies while keeping things modern and embracing the rich history that Harlem has.
Who ever Netflix has hired for casting is doing their job above and beyond. Each person is talented and believable in their roles. Same with the writing. Amazing characters and story. One of my favorite parts of this movie is that they brought the character Claire Temple back. I love Rosario Dawson as Claire and what this character has to offer these movies.
Episode 4 we get a lot of flash backs learning more about Luke Cage’s back story. The flashbacks continue throughout the rest of the series with him and other characters as we better understand the motivations and the well developed characters in this series. Netflix and Disney have yet to release a Marvel comic series that does not have great characters!
The fighting (action) of this series was well choreographed. Though they are far and few between with a heavy focus on the narrative of the story and characters. Just as with Jessica Jones, where the character Luke Cage is first introduced, there is an element of this movie that is commentary on out current world focusing on Harlem, crime, corruption of power, and racism.
